On the Road (english version)

The last chord has faded
Your songs, you’ve played them all
The cheers have ebbed away
Your last friends are leaving the hall.
You’re reaching for your case,
Your head full of tunes,
One more gaze back ’cause it’s over,
You’re going to head off soon.

When you started back then
You were already quite sure
You’d only write your own songs
You’d perform them on tour.
No lines for the everyday,
No lyrics for sing-alongs,
Your words a message
for all those who might like your songs.

Another stage, another bar –
do you still believe you’re going to be a star?

On the road – you have been playing all alone,
How does it feel to have no home?
Did all your long-time dreams come true?
On the road – do you believe in old school blues?
Was there no fear that you might lose?
Yet losing’s nothing you would do.

Even though years have passed
Even though things have gone
Although we are that young no more
I know the blues still lives on.
Got myself a steady job
Locked my dreams away,
If I had been more courageous
It could now be me be on your way.
